Situated right next to one of my favorite LA dive bars on Western Ave., Romeros Mexican Food was a mainstay in Koreatown for 28 years until their closing in 2016.
My go-to dishes were the garlic shrimp plate and the chile relleno, and several baskets of their freshly made chips and super spicy salsa. The owners were so warm and welcoming, working hard behind the counter, preparing delicious food in an open kitchen in a tiny space that always felt like home. I hope they're doing well, wherever they are.
A vegan burger restaurant now occupies the storefront, but it will always be Romero's to me. -
